Homecoming Queen

I embody the Comet Spirit every day by enjoying my time as a student at UTD. UT Dallas provides so many opportunities that, at another point in my life, I could have never imagined having. I love going to coffee chats with Women Pursuing Law and meeting fantastic lawyers who work in exactly what I want to work on after law school. Overall, I love being a student at this school. On the day that I graduate, I know that I will look back with gratitude and look forward with excitement for the future that UTD prepared me for.

My experiences have allowed me to meet people across the university, and these interactions have given me a unique capacity to connect with individuals of all different backgrounds. I look back at my first three years with a smile, seeing how far I’ve come, thanks to the people who helped me. As a senior, my student mentors have all graduated, but I remain happy to be here to help the younger students find their way at UTD and inspire the Comet Spirit.

My engagement with the Señoritas of Sigma Lambda Alpha Sorority, Inc. (SLA) and the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) demonstrates my embodiment of the Comet Spirit. I am honored to be nominated for Homecoming Queen. I genuinely believe in the university’s mission and I am dedicated to upholding the Comet Spirit in everything I do. My commitment to community service, passion for engaging underrepresented communities and leadership experiences make me a strong candidate to embody the essence of UTD as Homecoming Queen.

I embody the Comet Spirit because I care about the people of UT Dallas. I work hard in my role on campus to ensure that everyone I meet walks away from our interactions feeling better about themselves and safe in their place here. Further, I am involved in various organizations at this university because I know that I cannot meet everyone here, but I help make space for them regardless. I hope that my quiet work ethic and attempts at kindness in everything I do represent UT Dallas well.

I’m somewhat of an outlier compared to the typical Comet. I’m loud, persistent and not afraid to encourage people to register to vote at The Plinth. However, all of that culminates in such a deep passion for UTD.  I’m a fighter with a servant’s heart, and in these ways, I embody the Comet Spirit. I understand UTD and the student body at its core, and I know these attributes qualify me to represent UT Dallas as Homecoming Queen.

Homecoming King

While I believe in the university and was honored, it wouldn’t really have meant anything for me to be Homecoming Queen. King, however, in tandem with my partner, Cristy, as Queen? That means something. To Texas higher ed in the moment, to Leslie Feinberg, to every performance of gender I’ve ever confounded. That means something, and I’m fighting for it. Pride lives. And what’s more Comet Spirit than an underdog from Kansas finding new life here, immersed in student life? Warmest Whooshes to that.

I embody the Comet Spirit through being a lifelong learner. Through academic excellence and thriving to continuously evolve and get better, I truly have the connection to education that a Comet should have. At UTD, I have had the chance to interact with people from all different backgrounds and I also pride myself in serving people and giving people the chance to participate in different activities.

I embody the Comet Spirit in that I have been involved in many organizations throughout my years at UTD. What qualifies me to be Homecoming King is that I have experience with the diverse types of people on campus and that can be crucial in helping make Homecoming exciting for all students. I hope to bring my level of enthusiasm and emanate that to the others on the court and, most importantly, the rest of the student body.

The Comet Spirit I embody was formed because of the fantastic people around me, from my peers to academic advisors to program directors and more. The new experiences of meeting everyone on campus at The Plinth, Student Union and in student organizations have shown me the incredible motivations and talents of each of us. Moreover, my drive and passion to connect to the campus qualify me to represent UT Dallas as Homecoming King.
